Dimensional Metrology and Quality Control - Services and Facilities

For research as well as for external services, the DM & QC research group at PMA relies on two metrology labs, located in adjacent rooms. The interferometry room has a volume of approximately 105 m³. The large laboratory is approximately 4 times larger. Each room has its own air conditioning unit, designed to keep the temperature in the rooms at a constant 20°C. Disturbances are, among others, persons in the room, illumination, machines. The foundations supporting the metrology rooms are distinct from the rest of the building, where offices and other labs at PMA are located. The negative influence of vibrations caused by machines within and outside the other sections of the building are hereby reduced. Neither room has windows, this to avoid influence of direct sunlight. The metrology labs are accessed via an air-lock. This avoids air draughts while persons enter or leave these facilities.

	3D Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM)
COORD3 MC16 3D CMM with a measuring range of 1600x1000x800 mm, and a specified accuracy u3 = 5 + 5.L/1000 µm (with L in mm), Mitutoyo FN905 3D CMM with a measuring range of 1000x700x450 mm³, DEA Omicron A001 3D CMM used for educational purposes.

Nikon 6D autocollimator, VEB Carl Zeiss Jena/Jenoptik universal Abbe length measuring machine with a measurement range of 200 mm, Renishaw ML10 interferometer, equipped with an EC10 environmental compensation laserkit, and with optics kits for linear, angular, long- and short-range straightness, and squareness measurement, Mitutoyo Quick Vision Pro 3D CNC vision measuring machine. Metris Probe LC-50: 3D laser scanning, part to CAD inspection and reverse engineering.

Rank Taylor Hobson Form Talysurf 120L surface analyser, with a 120mm traverse unit with HeNe laser interferometric transducer.
