Model based predictive control of ground coupled heat pumps in office buildings
Borehole thermal energy storage (BTES) can drastically cut the energy consumption related to space heating and cooling. This research focuses on optimizing the control of ground coupled heat pump systems by means of model based predictive control (MPC). The controller should guarantee that energy demand is met at lowest energy cost, while respecting temperature and power constraints. It therefore needs a dynamic model of the system to be controlled. The development of a dynamic model of the BTES constitutes an important part of this research.
