About MACC

The Multi-Agent Coordination and Control (MACC) Research Group designs, analyzes and deploys holonic manufacturing execution systems (HMES), since 1985.

Manufacturing systems are an instance of complex systems that are composed out of a large amount of components. These components need to be coordinated and controlled in order to exhibit a nice symphony of production processes. Our research is focused on the use of the multi-agent technology in creating this harmony.

Apart from the manufacturing coordination and control system, this group is also concerned with applying the same technology to more extensible systems such as traffic systems, supply chain networks, railway systems, etc. When dealing with the multi-agent system, one of the most important aspects is the coordination between the agents. In our research, the coordination mechanism is inspired from the behavior of an ant colony in finding a food source.
